A Paraplanner is a member of the Financial Planning Team. They must possess a strong overall knowledge of the key areas of the Financial Planning and advice process. Paraplanners provide support to Financial Planning Consultants and their clients by undertaking product research, preparing technical reports, and answering technical queries. A successful paraplanner allows Financial Planners to have more time to spend on their increasing client base and tailoring advice to their clients’ individual needs.

They will create, prepare, implement, and review a client’s financial plan whilst ensuring the highest standards of compliance are adhered to. As well as working closely with Advisers and clients, they will help lead and guide the Financial Planning Administrators.

Paraplanners tend to follow two career paths once they have obtained their CII qualifications. The first being a Technical or Senior Planner who will take on more responsibility within the team and have greater technical knowledge and expertise in the role. This can include mentoring and developing members of the team or becoming a product specialist. Others will use their knowledge and experience as a steppingstone into giving advice. Both career paths can also include working towards CII Chartered Financial Planner status.

The nature of the role requires an individual who revels in the detail and is an enthusiastic problem-solver. The career path of a Paraplanner at Doherty’s can begin as an entry level role progressing from our Financial Planning Administration team or as part of our award-winning graduate training programme. Our paraplanners are well qualified and will either hold or be working towards the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Diploma in Financial Planning.
